Bendigo Advertiser |
This Saturday's round 10 games in the Heathcote District Football League.
HUNTLY V MOUNT PLEASANT - 2.15pm Saturday at Hy-Line Australia Oval.
Last time: Round 1, 2014: Mount Pleasant 14.11 (95) d Huntly 13.11 (89).
Since 1995: Mount Pleasant 30; Huntly 10.
HUNTLY - getting into dangerous territory now for last year’s grand finalists.
Didn’t fire a shot against Leitchville-Gunbower last week and have now slipped two games outside the top five.
Coach Stacy Fiske didn’t mince words after the loss, questioning the commitment of “a couple of players” to playing the Hawks’ style of footy.
MOUNT PLEASANT - also coming off a shocker last week when thumped by North Bendigo by 77 points.
Last week’s hiding again highlighted the gap between the Blues’ best and worst.
They’ve won five games and sit one game clear in the top five, but their average losing margin in their three defeats is 66 points.
COLBINABBIN V LOCKINGTON-BAMAWM UNITED - 2.15pm Saturday at M.J. Morgan Oval.
Last time: Round 1, 2014: LBU 14.11 (95) d Colbinabbin 8.13 (61).
Since 2001: Colbinabbin 17; LBU 15.
COLBINABBIN - pressure was on after round five when they were battling at 1-4, but have evened the ledger at 4-4 on the back of three wins in a row.
Played bottom two sides Heathcote and Elmore the past fortnight, and now come up against reigning premier LBU on the rebound from a defeat.
This will show where the Grasshoppers are at.
LBU - former coach Mick Malthouse once spoke at Collingwood of the Magpies suffering blockbuster fatigue.
Could LBU be beginning to feel the effect of teams constantly coming after the champions week after week?
They’ve lost two of their past three, with coach Adrian Dohnt saying his side must be better at getting up for the contest.
HEATHCOTE V ELMORE - 2.15pm Saturday at Prendergast Oval.
Last time: Round 1, 2014: Heathcote 6.4 (40) dr Elmore 2.1 (13) - match abandoned in second quarter.
Since 1995: Heathcote 24; Elmore 19; Drawn 1.
HEATHCOTE - tough year for the Saints, who begin the second half of the season without a win.
This year’s battles are a far cry from the past decade when every year since 2005, the Saints have turned for the second half with at least four wins.
The Saints are injury-riddled, but a big chance at home to break their duck this weekend.
ELMORE - like Heathcote, the Bloods will have been eyeing this game off as a chance to finally notch their first win of the season.
To gauge some comparison on how the two winless teams shape up, last week Elmore lost to Colbinabbin by 18 points in a competitive performance.
The previous week Heathcote lost to Colbinabbin by 78 points.
WHITE HILLS V LEITCHVILLE-GUNBOWER - 2.15pm Saturday at Tint-a-Car Oval.
Last time: Round 1, 2014: Leitchville-Gunbower 18.14 (122) d White Hills 9.9 (63).
Since 2010: White Hills 7; Leitchville-Gunbower 2.
WHITE HILLS - the Demons proved they’re the real deal last week when they beat LBU for the first time in seven years by 10 points.
Despite the confidence-boosting win, the Demons didn’t move from fourth spot.
However, a win over the Bombers - who they lost to by 59 points in round one - will lift the Demons to third position.
LEITCHVILLE-GUNBOWER - they say a week is a long time in football - just ask the Bombers.
Bounced back from three losses in a row to comfortably account for Huntly by 65 points last week to restore some belief back amongst the group.
Saturday’s clash at a ground where the Bombers have never won is crucial for the top-three aspirations of both sides.
