Weekly Advertiser | Taylors Lake’s A Grade netballers secured their first victory of 2026 by a split second on Saturday.
After protecting a slender lead for most of the afternoon against also-winless Rupanyup, the Lakers’ hopes of earning four premiership points seemed to be slipping away with 20 seconds remaining in the contest.
Debutant Panther goalie Lara Webb lined up what would have been her 17th goal of the game to break a 40-40 deadlock, but her shot bounced twice on the rim before caroming off.
The Lakers snatched the ensuing rebound and, after an obstruction call on the Panthers, raced the ball to their attacking end.
A horn signalling the end of the quarter appeared to sound just as Laker goal shooter Tayla Eltze caught the ball under the ring, but an umpire’s whistle to end the game came a fraction of a second after the ball had left her hands.
Eltze’s shot dropped cleanly through the net, but Laker coach Sharon Fedke said players and spectators on both sides were unsure if it had counted.
“By that stage no one was sure whether it was a draw or not, but the umpire said the goal counted,” she said.
