Weekly Advertiser | A four-quarter effort saw Stawell record a strong 31-goal win over Nhill in Wimmera league A Grade netball on Saturday.
The Warriors, playing on their home court, led at each change to take a 58-27 win.
Stawell’s first win of the season also celebrated midcourter Jessie Newton’s 200th game at the Warriors.
Stawell co-coach Jemma Clarkson said the competition had already seen a few close wins and draws this season, making the win even more important.
“It’s taken us until this round to kind of put four quarters on the board in one game, and it was really nice to see us play that game out fully and to not relax during the game,” she said.
“We’re looking at the ladder already and we think it’s going to be really tight during the season, and we might need that percentage boost eventually.
“So it was really important that we did maintain a pretty high-scoring rate when we could.”
The Warriors’ best players were wing-defence Rachel Driscoll and midcourter Molly Orr. “Rach just played a super tight game at wing defence, really relentless in her pressure and dictating where her player could move to on court – something that we’ve really been working hard on at training, especially when that ball’s turned over in our offensive end – to be really switched on quickly and not let them have a free run down court,” Clarkson said.
