The Early Crow

Horsham District FNLWeekly Advertiser | Kaniva-Leeor United confirmed its status as one of Horsham District A Grade netball’s big improvers, defeating Taylors Lake by 21 goals on Saturday.

The Cougars finished second-last with only two wins in 2025, but have already doubled that win total six rounds into this season after their 49-28 win at Dock Lake Reserve.

Goalie Abby Croft was on fire, outscoring the Lakers by herself with 34 conversions under the ring, while captain Nikki Hawker played a supporting role with 15.

Kaniva-Leeor coach Kylie King said she was happy with the way her team adapted to tricky conditions, with persistent rain making the court slick underfoot.

“Our players settled into the wet weather well, although it took us until the second quarter to adjust to the conditions,” she said.

“Abby Croft played an outstanding game shooting really well again, and the defensive pressure from Ruby Gordon, Ellen Bennett and Lauren Brown really turned the game around for us.

“The wet weather took the speed out of the game but Nikki really came back into the game this week and adapted to the wet really well with our midcourters Zoe Hawker and Jas Talbot.”
