The Early Crow

Horsham District FNLWeekly Advertiser | At the midway point of the Horsham District A Grade netball season, one thing is clear: Laharum is back to its formidable best.

The Demons claimed the 2024 premiership following an undefeated season, but took a step back last year as they missed key contributors Caitlin Jones-Story for the season and Maddie Iredell for finals.

But with both back in the fold this year, alongside new recruits Ilze van Zyl and Jaspa Robinson, Laharum has quickly begun to resemble the juggernaut of two years ago.

Van Zyl and Jones-Story are the league’s top two goal-scorers, with 291 and 241 respectively, while Robinson and Ema Iredell anchor a strong defence at the other end of the court.

Laharum’s percentage of nearly 189 is more than 30 points higher than its next closest rival – Edenhope-Apsley.

After a runner-up finish last year, the Saints have begun their quest to go one better in outstanding form. Edenhope-Apsley is yet to lose a game this season, although a draw against Noradjuha-Quantong in round four sees the Saints trailing Laharum by two premiership points.

The Saints are another side with talent across the court, with Dee Dee Lambert and coach Lavinia Fox forming a deadly pair in goals and Hannah Magasanik adding a new dimension to the midcourt when available.

The second half of the season is set to present a true test of Edenhope-Apsley’s strength, with a round nine game against Laharum and subsequent clashes with Kalkee, Pimpinio and Noradjuha-Quantong.
