Weekly Advertiser | Stawell’s upset 47-41 win over Dimboola on Saturday has the Warriors sitting in sixth position on the Wimmera A Grade ladder, just two points out of the top five.
The Warriors were determined to start well against the favoured Roos, and took a five-goal lead into quarter time.
Dimboola clawed back the margin to 22-19 at half-time, but the visitors gained the ascendancy in the third term to jump out to a seven-goal lead by the last break.
Stawell co-coach Jemma Clarkson said it was just the confidence-boost the team needed to run out the match.
“We really talked about getting off to a better start than we had been and making sure teams didn’t get a jump on us – which is what has happened a little bit this season – so really working hard in those first five or so minutes to be really patient with the ball and work ourselves into the game,” she said. “
I think we did that really well on the weekend and we were able to come away in the first quarter with a bit of a lead, which set us up really well for the game."
