Weekly Advertiser | A staggering 81 goals by Jorja Clode helped Horsham Saints to one of its biggest wins of the season, defeating Stawell 98-42.
Round 16’s results have cemented Wimmera league A Grade netball’s top five, with the undefeated Saints on top, followed by Horsham Demons, Dimboola, Ararat and Stawell.
But the Saints’ 56-goal win showed the difference between first and fifth place.
Clode shot at 95 per cent accuracy, scoring her 81 goals from 86 attempts – Saints coach Vernetta Taylor said she was sitting at 100 per cent accuracy until midway through the last quarter.
“In our haste to try to get 100 goals in the second half of the last quarter we said ‘Right, let’s put our foot down and see if we can tick over the ton’ and in that excitement, there were a couple of late misses and she’s probably kicking herself about that, but gosh, she played a great game so she shouldn’t be disappointed at all,” Taylor said.
Equally, Saints defender Maddi Bethune had a standout game.
“Maddi just created countless turnovers for us – her ability to read the ball, her rebounding, just being in the right position at the right time was really exceptional,” Taylor said.
“She just gets better and better every week, to be honest, and what’s improving about her game that perhaps was missing previously was her communication with her other defender and the team in general.
