Weekly Advertiser | If Dimboola can rebound off a loss to Horsham Saints and score a win against Stawell this Saturday, the Roos could find themselves in a Wimmera league A Grade qualifying final.
That is, if Ararat – on the same points as Dimboola but with better percentage – does not cause an upset against the highly fancied Saints.
A Dimboola win and Ararat loss would mean the two teams swap positions on the ladder, and it could mean the world of difference come finals time.
The Rats’ fate this weekend means they will either drop to fourth and face Stawell in an elimination final, or a win could earn them the double chance.
Ararat has won the past three games, including a six-goal victory over Minyip-Murtoa on Saturday.
With new player Michayla McRae combining well with Laney McLoughlan in the goal circle, the Rats had a strong first quarter, but the Burras came back strong, and were within two goals of the home side by the last quarter.
Ararat will need every part of its game at its best for the final home-and-away round when it takes on the Saints, who are coming off a 76-41 win over Dimboola.
The Saints played consistent netball in the first half, led by Shannon Cross in wing defence, increasing their nine-goal quarter-time lead to 14 by half-time.
But it was their third quarter where they put the foot on the accelerator, scoring 20 goals while holding the Roos to nine.
