East Gippsland FNLBairnsdale Advertiser | Minor premier Lucknow and Boisdale Briagolong will face off in the East Gippsland Football Netball League “A” grade netball grand final this Saturday at the Bairnsdale City Oval.

The Magpies, minor premiers for the past three years, are chasing an elusive premiership, while the Bombers will be looking to go one better than last year, when they fell just short in the decider.

The two sides met twice during the home-and-away season with both teams trading wins. Lucknow got the upper hand in round five with a convincing 51-43 victory, showing the attacking power and defensive discipline that has become a hallmark of their season.

Boisdale Briagolong bounced back in round 13, edging out the Magpies 40-39 in a nail-biting encounter that highlighted their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

Both sides will go into the finale in great form. The Magpies were superb, dispatching Stratford 56-46 in the qualifying final, while the Bombers smashed the Swans in the preliminary final 57-42.

Boisdale Briagolong is one of the great success stories of the season, playing with a relatively new list after losing players for a number of reasons.

But they have battled on with a limited but quality roster, finding their way to the big dance. They will go in as the underdog, with no pressure or expectation — which can’t be said of the Magpies.
