Weekly Advertiser | It has been 55 years since Dimboola last played in a Wimmera league A Grade grand final and – despite going in as underdogs against the undefeated Horsham Saints – the Roos will attempt to seize the opportunity.

A 42-33 win over Horsham Demons in the preliminary final at Minyip on Saturday has given Dimboola its first grand final berth since 1971.

Roos A Grade coach Ant Toet said it had been even longer since Dimboola had won an A Grade premiership, with the last in 1964.

“We’ve still got people from the ’64 A Grade premiership side who come and serve in the canteen or come and lend a hand, so it’s pretty special,” she said.

Such is the way of the club – one of the smaller in the league – which often lacks the numbers to field netball teams in all grades.

They rely heavily on their juniors progressing through the ranks and this year’s A Grade team is brimming with local talent. That talent now faces a monumental task of tackling the classy Saints who, after not dropping a game this season, are favourites to win back-to-back premierships.

“We know they’re a slick side, a well-oiled machine, and they’re with 30-odd straight wins,” Toet said.
