It was hard, it was physical, and for all but two minutes it was close.

Seymour’s A-grade netball side stuck gamely with higher-ranked Benalla, but a brief lapse in concentration proved costly as the Lions slid to a 42-34 defeat.

‘‘For that two minutes they (Benalla) started to get quite physical,’’ coach Ash Chapman said.

‘‘Our players were mildly intimidated I think and though they got back into the swing of things it was too late. It was just that loss of concentration.’’

Chapman was happy with his side’s effort, given a 10-goal loss in the first round.

Standouts included defender Sarah Szczykulski — ‘‘she kept persisting on a physical player and did a great job for us and was a great option on the centre pass which isn’t often common with a goal defence’’ — and shooters Millie Brock and Ellie O’Sullivan.
