Border Mail | CHILTERN coach Mark Doolan says the Swans will be fired up after a “disappointing” performance against Rutherglen last weekend.
Today’s Talangatta League clash with Mitta United will prove decisive for both sides, as they battle to secure a place in the top-five.
After being upset by the Cats last Saturday, Doolan said too many of his players “disappeared” during the game.
“It wasn’t the effort you want from a team that’s trying to stay in touch with the top five,” the coach said.
“But the way the players have trained this week has shown that they’re ready to make up for it.”
Doolan is expecting a much more aggressive effort from the Swans, in what is shaping up as a potentially season-defining game for both clubs.
“We can’t afford another game like last week,” Doolan said.
“Mitta are a proud club, and they aren’t going to come out and play like a side that has won two games and lost five.
“They played in the grand final for a reason, and they will be expecting little short of that again this year.
“There are enough stars in their side to turn their season around, and certainly from our point of view, we can’t let that happen.”
The Swans need a win to stay in touch with the fifth placed Barnawartha, or else risk getting tangled in a lower ladder log jam with the likes of Mitta, Wahgunyah and Yackandandah.
“This is the type of game where the whole group needs to stand up,” Doolan said.
“I’m expecting a different team to run out this week compared to what we had last week against Rutherglen.
“We had the wrong attitude coming into it, and it’s a mistake we won’t be making twice in a row.”
