THURGOONA was made to fight it out for the full four quarters in its 23-point win against Chiltern at Chiltern on Saturday.

Last year’s grand finalist recruited well this season and was a heavy favourite at the weekend.

But Chiltern, led by co-coaches Kirk Wilson and Shaun Pritchard and a host of youngsters, made the Bulldogs earn it.

Wilson said he was happy with the way his side fought out the game.

“We’re a pretty young side, we’ve got some blokes that have come straight into seniors without playing a game in reserves,” he said.

“We got the first goal of the game but everytime we kicked one Thurgoona were able to kick the next two or three.

“I think the belief is there in our side that we can match it with your Thurgoonas and Kiewas.”

Despite the relatively close final margin, Thurgoona never looked like letting the game slip.

The visitor led by 12 points at quarter time, 31 at the long break and 25 at three- quarter-time.

Thomas Stead and Todd Miller proved a handful for the Swans’ defence, kicking three goals each.
