corowa rutherglenBorder Mail |COROWA-Rutherglen coach Bryce Campbell will step down from the helm at the end of the season.

Campbell told his players after Saturday's 75-point loss to Lavington that increasing work and family commitments had ruled him out of signing on for a third year at John Foord Oval.

The former SANFL player is based at Wagga and spends two or three nights a week in Corowa.

"Although my commitment has never changed, it does take its toll," Campbell said.

"I'm spending a fair bit of time away from my family and work has got pretty busy pretty quick.

"Halfway through the year it's important for the club to plan for next year."

Corowa-Rutherglen officials are set to meet this week to discuss whether they target a playing or non-playing coach with the likely implementation of a player points system.

Campbell conceded a lack of depth had hurt the Roos this season but is confident they can improve their 2-8 win-loss record in the second half of the home and away series.

"It was always going to be a testing time for the club this year," he said.

"We have lost 17 players who played a senior game last year and we have lost 10 or 11 from our starting 18 in the final.

"We have picked up 3 players.

"The club was always going to be tested.

"It's really important we finish the season strongly though and don't drop away."

Campbell, who took Corowa-Rutherglen to last year's elimination final, is expected to be targeted by Riverina and Farrer league clubs in coming months.

Roos president Graham Hosier said the club could understand Campbell's situation.

"It was a mutual decision," Hosier said.

"We will sit down soon and discuss which way we go in finding a new coach."
