Border Mail | THE rapid rise of Wodonga Raiders whizkid Sam Murray continues to progress at breakneck speed, with coach Daryn Cresswell revealing he had spoken to three AFL clubs about the young midfielder/forward.
Murray, 17, who crossed to the Raiders after playing in Henty's drought-breaking Hume league premiership last season, has bounced back from missing the Murray Bushrangers' squad to set the Ovens and Murray alight in his first 10 games, and starred in the league's under-18 victory over Peninsula last month.
In Saturday's win over Wang- aratta, Murray also displayed a tough side, injuring his leg just before half-time but returning to finish with two goals in another solid display.
"Sam's a great young kid, he's improving every week," Cresswell said.
"We go over his tape thoroughly — he's an attacking player and we're working hard on his defensive side.
"He's come along in leaps and bounds — I'm a huge wrap for Sam, and there's been AFL interest in him already, so I'm sure if he keeps playing the way he is he'll make his own luck and find himself on an AFL list.
"I've spoken to about three clubs, so he's got a lot of interest — he's playing some terrific footy, he's got good speed, runs and carries the ball, he wins his own ball, he can mark it forward as he proved against Corowa-Rutherglen. He's got all the attributes so we're just working on some deficiencies at training and on tape."
Cresswell was impressed by Murray's toughness on Saturday.
