ANDY Hill will go down as one of the greatest players of the Ovens and Murray modern era, according to some of the league’s biggest names.

Wodonga coach Hollands described Hill as a “warrior”, while Lavington workhorse Pendergast said he could recall few harder at the contest than the Hawks’ 250-gamer.

“He’s one of the hardest blokes at the footy you’d meet,” Pendergast said.

“Whenever you lined up on him you knew you were in for a big day.

“He could do everything.

“He was tough and good in the air, too.

“He’s definitely close to the top of the tree.”

Hollands, meanwhile, praised the longevity of the Wangaratta Rovers star.

Hill, who won five best and fairests at W.J. Findlay Oval, was forced to pull the pin on his glittering career earlier than expected due to a serious neck injury.

“I’ve been away for a big chunk of his career but he’s always played like a warrior,” Hollands said.
