The Deniliquin Rams will resume pre-season training next Monday in preparation for a tilt at finals football in 2013.
The first session back since the Christmas break will be held at the Hardinge St Oval from 6pm.
Rams coach Gary Parsons said the training sessions will include a mixture of fitness based workouts, such as running and boxing, as well as some structural set-up drills and game type scenarios.
‘‘We’ll do a bit of stuff like zone set-ups and centre square structures because it’s cold during the season and you do a lot of standing around,’’ Parsons said.
The five time premiership coach said he was pleased with how many players have already started training with the Rams, who completed almost a dozen sessions in November and December.
‘‘The numbers were really good (before Christmas). We actually went a week or two longer then we planned because there was so many on the track,’’ he said.
The non-playing coach said he didn’t really have a lot to do with running the summer sessions at the end of last year, instead handing the job over to the players.
‘‘We had a lot of blokes running the sessions so there was a lot of different stuff being done. We even did a bit of water skiing and I think it was the variety that kept people interested and the numbers high.
‘‘We had over 10 new faces at training (including former senior players Tom Draffin and Ryan Chadderton) and we’re hoping to get a few more when we get back into it.
‘‘It’s pleasing to see kids like Brenton Loudon and Lachie MacDonald down there too because players like them are the future of the club.’’
The Rams will train on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at the Hardinge St Oval when the sessions resume, and a third session will be held on either Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings.
‘‘It just depends on what the players want to do. We haven’t had Friday morning training in a few years,’’ Parsons said.
