Fixing the ongoing issue of delayed Goulburn Valley Football League senior matches remains a top priority for general manager Keith Wellman.

A pre-season decision to start under-18 games at 10.30am instead of 10am has wreaked havoc on scheduling, resulting in wildly fluctuating senior starting times — and always late.

There was no change to the respective noon and 2pm start times for the reserves and seniors.

The problem looked set to come to a head at a league delegates’ meeting two weeks ago, with Wellman and fellow board members recommending the under-18s return to the old starting time.

Wellman was unable to attend that meeting due to tribunal commitments the same night.

Club delegates ultimately voted 7-5 in favour of pushing the reserves back to 12.15pm and leaving the other starting times unchanged, but the problems have persisted.

‘‘I wasn’t at the delegates’ meeting, because I had to control that tribunal meeting, and it never got a proper hearing at the delegates’ meeting,’’ Wellman said.

‘‘We had a sub-committee meeting on another matter (on Wednesday night) and it was brought up and the whole point about it is there is not a definite start (time) for seniors.’’

Wellman said he made his feelings clear at this week’s sub-committee meeting about the ‘‘ridiculous situation’’.

‘‘We’ve got another board meeting on Monday week (May 13) and I can actually say it will be a matter for further discussion at that board meeting,’’ he said.

‘‘We have the power (to change the starting times ourselves), but club delegates could knock it back.

‘‘I don’t want to be critical of anyone, but it was a bad blue me not being there, because there were other items really high on the agenda that didn’t get dealt with on the night.’’

Wellman said the next delegates’ meeting was on Wednesday, May 22.

Another discussion point at Wednesday night’s sub-committee meeting was the distribution of finals catering.

The current format sees Shepparton and Shepparton United sharing the grand final each year and Shepparton Swans receiving the catering for the preliminary final.

The other nine clubs cater a final only once every two seasons.

Wellman said the discussion about equalisation was ongoing.
