BRENDAN Fevola says Lavington could be Yarrawonga’s biggest threat this year.

Despite taking Albury on in the past four grand finals, the Pigeons’ spearhead said yesterday the Panthers were equally as dangerous to his club’s premiership defence this season.

“Any team is a threat on their day,” Fevola said. “You only have to look at Myrtleford beating Albury last year.

“But Lavington is obviously a great team and has started this year really well.

“We respect them and their press seems to be working.

“There could be an upset this week. Hopefully not, but we know we’re going to have to play well to beat them.

“Lavington and Albury look the main ones.”

But Fevola, who booted 110 goals in an unforgettable first year with the Pigeons, said today’s clash wasn’t overly important in the context of the season.

He said the club wouldn’t panic if it lost today.

“These games don’t really matter, to tell you the truth,” Fevola said.

“It’s all about what happens in finals.

“We smashed Rovers during the season and they came out and nearly knocked us off in the finals.

“You never know what’s going to happen in the finals and that’s when it counts.”

Fevola will be out to bounce back from last week when he recorded his worst goal-return for a game since joining the Ovens and Murray.

He managed just two goals against Myrtleford last Saturday.

“I gave off a few and when you miss two from the goal square it doesn’t help,” Fevola said.

“It hit the post from the goal square which was pretty embarrassing but it’s a pretty good sign if I only kick two goals and we still win by 100 points,” he said.

Fevola said he wasn’t concerned about the absence of fellow former AFL trio Craig Ednie, Steve McKee and Luke Hammond today.

“We’ve got a few out but our twos are humming along and the players that step in won’t be keen to give those spots back up,” he said.
