Geelong premiership players Matthew Scarlett and David Wojcinski are part of Geelong Football League’s reduced interleague squad.
GFL interleague officials cut the squad from 48 to 30 yesterday, with ex-St Kilda defender Raphael Clarke and former Western Bulldogs ruckman Peter Street among the notable omissions.
GFL is Goulburn Valley’s latest opponent for country Victoria’s No.
Other former AFL-listed players in GFL’s side are Bell Park’s Nick Batchelor and Tim Sheringham (both Geelong), Grovedale’s Adam Donohue (Geelong) and Newton and Chilwell’s Jai Sheahan (Melbourne).
Donohue’s father Larry is a former century goal-kicker and Coleman medallist for the Cats in the then VFL, while Sheringham shared the competition’s Mathieson Medal with new Shepparton Swan and ex-St Joseph’s backman Dan Lovick last year.
Lara’s Shaydon Bloomfield leads the Geelong Football League goal-kicking with 36 in six games and will provide a forward target, alongside South Barwon’s Clinton Wells.
Shepparton United premiership defender Ryan Normington, who has played for Newtown and Chilwell the past two seasons, is third in the GFL goal-kicking with 21, but did not make the squad.
Goulburn Valley selectors have lost a number of stars since the weekend and trimmed others from the squad.
Seymour skipper and ex-Western Bulldogs-listed player Brent Colbert was already unavailable because of a hamstring injury.
Others out of contention through injury or other reasons from the initial squad are Shepparton United’s Shaun Huy, Jason Eagle and Ryan Butler, Tatura’s Leigh Owen, Seymour’s Saad Saad, Euroa’s Matt Quinton, Mansfield’s Josh Fraser, Mooroopna’s Mitch Keddell, Shepparton’s Rhys O’Sullivan and Shepparton Swan Jessie Finnen.
Goulburn Valley’s final training session is tonight at Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve, while GFL trained last night and will again tomorrow night before officials confirm its final 22.
