EDNIE, Murray, Pendergast, Hartwig and McKee.

They are names the modern era of Ovens and Murray football has been built around and it’s those names who will represent the league in tomorrow’s interleague showdown with the Peninsula league.

Despite making a name for itself as the home of former AFL talent recently, the O and M last night named a team full of local flavour and it’s for that reason captain Craig Ednie said the league was confident of winning.

“I think so,” Ednie said.

“We’ve obviously had a few blokes pull out but to have guys like Brad Murray, Matt Pendergast, Tyson Hartwig, James Saker and other guys who are involved with the league a lot is exciting.

“And then some younger guys, too, like Lonnie Hampton and Corey Greer, make the side look pretty good.

“It’s a massive honour to captain the league and it’s something I will definitely remember.

“We’re a better league than where we’re at and hopefully we can have a win and give it a red-hot crack next year.”
