INJURED Walla coach Craig Mannagh was blown away after Saturday’s monster auction raised $31,119 to cover his medical bills and living costs.

A very fatigued Mannagh, 42, was at his Norris Park home yesterday recovering from the big weekend.

“I was lost for words on Saturday night,” he said.

“The support I have received from people in the community has touched me and my family.

“All the football clubs and schools I have been involved with over the years, they all did their bit.

“It’s greatly appreciated because for the next six to 12 months I am unable to work.

“This money will definitely help with living costs and all the medical bills.”

About 250 people attended the auction at Lavington Panthers Sports Club.

There were 103 individual items donated by Border residents and businesses, as well as supporters in Melbourne.

Mannagh has been undergoing rehabilitation at Lavington’s South West Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit since a head clash knocked him unconscious during a match against Murray Magpies in April.

The father-of-five visited his neurologist in Melbourne last week.

“The neurologist is happy with how far I have come,” he said.

“After talking to the medical staff they have made me realise how significant my head injury actually is.

“I’m lucky to be here to talk about it and that’s what I tell people when they ask how I am.”

Apart from rehabilitation, Mannagh’s biggest challenge is fatigue.

“I get tired really easy,” he said.

“I am in rehab four days a week, so Mondays are my rest day.”

A website, www.supportcraig.net, has been established for people to read updates and donate money to the family.
