MYRTLEFORD’S prospects of making further inroads up the Ovens and Murray ladder next season have been bolstered by the re-signing of dangerous midfielder Kristan Height.

The former Hawthorn player met Saint officials yesterday, with club president Bill O’Donohue saying his signature was a huge boost to the club’s chances of re-emerging as a force.

“He’s a very respected person at Myrtleford,” O’Donohue said.

“A lot of the younger players in particular look up to him and it’s great he has committed for next season.

“Kristan trains a group of our players at Princes Park in Melbourne each week and has been fantastic for the club.”

Height, 30, represented the league earlier this season and, along with coach Brad Murray, is one of the favourites for the Saints’ best and fairest award.

Myrtleford has three wins from the opening 12 rounds and could finish as high as sixth if it defeats Wangaratta at McNamara Reserve today.

The Magpies fought back from a big early deficit to win by 13 points earlier this season.

Murray said there was no hiding from the fact the Saints took plenty of motivation out of that shattering loss on Anzac Day.

“We feel like we let it slip last time,” Murray said.

“They overran us, which was really disappointing.

“We want to redeem ourselves on our home ground.”

Myrtleford has been fancied heavily by tipsters this week, and Murray wasn’t hiding from the favourites tag.

“We want to win the game,” he said.

“We’ve been reasonably happy with our footy lately and we’ll take confidence out of that.”

Murray, who is in his first year as co-coach of the Saints, said that he was always confident of Height re-signing at the club.
