Shepparton United coach Marc Quarrell yesterday fired the first verbal shot ahead of Sunday’s Goulburn Valley Football League grand final against Kyabram.
Quarrell’s men came from nine points down early in the third term to beat the Shepparton Swans by 21 points in the preliminary final at Deakin Reserve.
That victory preserved United’s unbeaten record in 11 games this season at its home base, which will also be the scene of the decider.
The Bombers have comfortably defeated the Demons in both their meetings this year, but Quarrell was confident of reversing those results.
‘‘Most certainly (we will have to improve), but it’s a different place and a different time,’’ Quarrell said.
‘‘There’s a bit going on and I think it will be a pretty intense sort of game. Real intense. We look forward to playing them here.
‘‘I reckon they might have a few doubts on playing at Deakin, so we’re pretty happy about that.’’
United won the 2010 grand final by 24 points over Kyabram for the first of its back-to-back premierships. They also met twice in that year’s finals series.
There is added spice to the contest, given the Bombers requested an investigation into Demon Joey Perkovic’s actions in the second semi-final.
League general manager Keith Wellman said in Friday’s News investigator Gary Wilson would have to present his findings by today for there to be any chance of a tribunal hearing before the decider.
‘‘Who knows (what will happen)? I don’t do any of that stuff. But they haven’t interviewed all our witnesses. They haven’t even interviewed him,’’ Quarrell said.
‘‘There’s a lot to go on here. We’re not going to stand by and let Joey Perkovic be a victim here, because there’s a lot that’s gone on.
‘‘He has been hung out to dry and there are a few of them that have a bit to answer for and that’s why I think this grand final is going to be a beauty.’’
