DEAN Polo couldn’t take it much longer. The stress, uncertainty and pressure of life in the AFL. After 77 workmanlike games at Richmond and St Kilda over seven years — Polo was done.


The Saints made the decision for him, delisting him at the end of last year, but for Polo — who won the inaugural Yiooken Award after an unforgettable best-on-ground debut in just the second Dreamtime at the ’G game — that call wasn’t met with much resentment.

He doesn’t miss it.

Not one bit.

“It’s all so stressful down there,” Polo, originally from Wy Yung, just out of Bairnsdale, revealed this week.

“Your sleeping patterns were never right.

“It was affecting things like that.

“I was always a fringe player and always had to prove myself.

“You were never really certain about anything.”

But now Polo is certain.
