First-year Tatura coach Scott Grigg pushed the importance of player versatility from the time he replaced premiership mentor Steve Daniel. He reaped the rewards at the weekend.

Billy Lovel started down back on Paul Newman and the Kyabram champion got away from him.

But Lovel kicked five goals in a match-winning forward role in the second half to turn around what could have been a down day.

Former Casey Scorpions forward Ben Waite’s ability to trade places with Lovel and keep Newman to one second-half major enabled the move to be a success.

And then there was James Wall, billed as Mr Versatile on arrival.

He started up forward and progressively went closer to goal — finishing with five second-half majors against Jason Morgan, one of the Goulburn Valley Football League’s finest defenders.
