COROWA-Rutherglen coach Adrian Pavese has accused the Roos of being “starstruck” after they were again blown away by Albury on Saturday.
The 111-point final margin was every bit as hefty as it looked as the Ovens and Murray powerhouse smashed the Roos from pillar to post for the umpteenth time in recent years.
Albury has now beaten Corowa- Rutherglen by more than 110 points in each of the club’s past five encounters, at an average margin of almost 122 points per game.
Pavese, in his second game as coach, said there was no doubt the club had lingering mental scars.
“We’ve got a long way to go,” he said.
“We were a bit starstruck, early.
“We prepared really well and tried to get rid of that ‘Oh no, it’s Albury’ mentality but obviously we’ve still got those demons to battle.
“The first quarter really hurt us, obviously, but I thought we were ultra-competitive in the last three quarters.
“We just made mistakes.”
Second-gamer Sean Kelly was a clear standout for the Roos, with fellow Queanbeyan recruits Beau and Kaeden Watts the next best.
