JASON Gram admits his start to the Ovens and Murray season hasn’t been good enough.
The star North Albury recruit, who was largely unsighted in the club’s second-round clash against Yarrawonga, said he needed to lift his work rate if he was to perform at the level he wanted, and which was expected, to be at each week.
Although he showed flashes of his brilliance during the Hoppers’ first-round win against Myrtleford, Gram has so far failed to set the competition alight like many thought the former AFL ace would.
“I was pretty disappointed with the Yarrawonga game — I couldn’t get near it,” he said.
“The first week I was happy. If I had kicked straight it would have looked a bit better on the stat sheet but the second week I didn’t work hard enough.
“But, we’ve had the week off and I’m fresh now and looking forward to getting back into it and working even harder.”
Gram, who was tagged out of the Bunton Park contest by Yarrawonga stopper Matt Irvine, said he had spoken to coach Jason Akermanis about how he could best combat the heavy attention he is set to cop each week.
“Obviously you need help from your teammates with blocking and things like that,” Gram said.
