Border Mail |OSBORNE'S season is on life support after slumping to its fourth consecutive loss of the season.
The perennial powerhouse is the only side yet to win a game and is anchored to the bottom of the ladder after proving no match for CDHBU after half-time to lose 14.16 (100) to 11.4 (70).
The Cats have contested finals for 22 of the past 24 seasons but now need a minor miracle to resurrect their season.
With 10 wins usually required to make finals, Daniel McAlister's charges are now faced with the huge challenge of winning 10 of its last 14 matches to snatch an unlikely finals berth.
A task that looks to be mission impossible in present form.
The victory broke a long-standing hoodoo for the Power who notched its first win against the Cats since joining the Hume league in 2008.
Rookie CDHBU coach Damien Payne said it was important to bounce back strongly after going down against Jindera the previous week in a hard fought contest.
"It was a good response after getting beat last week and helps consolidate a spot inside the top-six," Payne said.
"We were close to full-strength after getting Luke Cowan and Sam Burdon back and they provided a massive boost for us and are critical to our structures."
In another bonus, promising 15-year-old Matt Walker bobbed-up with four goals in his senior debut.
Walker played thirds earlier in the day and then played seniors and was among the Power's best alongside Nathan Rhodes, Luke Cowan, Tom Moloney and Alex Wallis.
