Border Mail |HALF an hour of power.
That's all it took for CDHBU to send a warning to the rest of the competition that the Power are a legitimate finals contender this season and not just making up the numbers.
After an even first quarter against Brock-Burrum at Burrumbuttock, the Power unleashed a devastating six goal to nothing second quarter on their way to a 11.9 (75) to 6.17 (53) victory.
The Power were inspired by injury riddled forward Luke Cowan who booted five goals in the second quarter onslaught on his way to a bag of seven.
The victory brought the Saints undefeated start to the season to a screaming halt and toppling from first to fourth on the ladder to highlight the tight nature of the competition.
The Power moved to third with a 4-1 record with only percentage separating them from Murray Magpies, Jindera and the Saints.
Power coach Damian Payne said he was rapt to claim the massive scalp of a legitimate flag contender.
"It was a huge win and the second quarter proved to be the difference in the end," Payne said.
"It was probably the best quarter we have played for the year.
"I knew we had it in us but it was just a matter of putting it all together.
"The challenge now is to produce footy like that on a more consistent basis.
"The delivery from the midfield was first class and Luke (Cowan) was able to capitalise with five goals for the term in easily his best game this year and arguably his best since joining the club last year."
Former coach Brad Talbot was the Power's best as he went head-to-head with Brock-Burrum co-coach Luke Schilg in the centre and was able to curb the influence of the Saints playmaker.
Nathan Rhodes, Tim Cooper and Sean Hanrahan were also solid contributors for the visitors.
Payne said he was fully aware the Saints were missing several key players including Jarrod Hillary, Eddie Menz, Nico Sedgwick and Kade Wilson.
"We are under no illusion that they weren't at full-strength and will be a lot better next time around," he said.
"We will bank the four points which could be priceless as far as our finals are concerned."
In other matches Osborne notched its first win of the season with a comfortable 46-point victory over Lockhart.
Jindera moved to second on the ladder after it crushed Holbrook by 82 points with coach Josh Walker booting eight goals.
Walla made it back-to-back victories with a 22-point win over Culcairn while Murray Magpies moved to the top of the ladder after their 21-point win over Billabong Crows.
