Bendigo FNLMedia Release | The Broadford Football Netball Club (BFNC) is delighted to announce the appointment of former AFL star Nathan Thompson as Club Coach – Senior Football, for the 2026 season.

A seasoned professional with a celebrated career spanning over 170 games for Hawthorn and North Melbourne, Thompson brings elite-level football experience, deep community values, and a passion for youth development to Broadford at a pivotal time in the club’s history.

Following a period of recess, the BFNC is preparing for a highly anticipated return to competition in a new league. The appointment of Thompson signals a bold and exciting new direction as the club looks to rebuild, reconnect, and reach its full potential — both on and off the field.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Broadford,” said Thompson. “This is a unique and special opportunity to help restore a proud community club and to work closely with young players to build something lasting. I’m passionate about creating an environment that supports development, success and belonging.”

BFNC President Bonnie Cavanagh-Welch said Thompson’s appointment reflects the club’s strong vision for the future while honoring the continuous service and commitment of the netballers and those who have remained dedicated to the club during what has been a challenging period.

“Nathan’s values align perfectly with our club’s direction — inclusive, community-minded, and development-driven,” Cavanagh-Welch said. “We’re thrilled to welcome someone of his calibre and character. This is a major step forward as we reignite our football program and strengthen our community foundations.”

The BFNC extends a warm welcome to Nathan Thompson and his family and invites the broader Broadford and local community to get behind the club as it embarks on this exciting new era.
