Geelong Advertiser | HE’D hoped for a slice of luck but moments after he was wheeled out of theatre, Levi Dare was dealt a crushing blow.
The Colac ruckman was hoping he had avoided a full knee reconstruction after fears he had ruptured his ACL in a practice match on March 21.
Dare had been training in the hope of making a surprise comeback in the second half of the GFL season but eventually succumbed to surgery.
His brother Joe, who was wheeled in theatre just hours before Levi on Monday night to undergo reconstructive surgery, is also out for the season.
“I was hoping for the best but clearly it wasn’t to be,” a groggy Levi said yesterday
“It was a full rupture and they stitched the cartilage as well.
“So I probably wouldn’t get back from a stitched cartilage anyway.”
The Dare brothers were both supposed to have surgery on Thursday, but it was postponed when the surgeon was ill.
Levi said the reality that his season was over was yet to sink in.
“It’s disappointing but footy is the last thing on you mind,” he said.
The pair hope to be “up and moving” in six weeks and will set their sights on returning for the Tigers season opening in 2016.
“I’m aiming for Round 1 next year but it might be later than that,” Levi said.
