Wimmera-Mail Times| BOTH teams have negatives and positives to take out of Saturday's clash.
Taylors Lake 30.12 (192) d Rupanyup 10.2 (62)
DESPITE a final margin of 130 points separating the sides, Taylors Lake and Rupanyup both found positives and negatives in Saturday’s game against each other.
The Lakers recorded a big victory, but were far from pleased with their performance in the first half – particularly in the second quarter.
Rupanyup kicked five goals to three in the second term and was within five goals at half-time.
The Lakers responded with a 10-goal blitz in the third term, but co-coach Pat Purcell said it showed there was still work to be done.
‘‘In the second quarter, we were terrible, and I think people started to get hungry and chase kicks,’’ he said.
‘‘Every week we have to take positives and negatives from each game and talk about how to improve on the negatives.’’
Andrew Watson was a focal point for the Lakers with eight goals.
Jye Smith, Jordan Wakeling and defender Ben Reid also stood up.
Rupanyup co-coach Scott Finnigan said his side had done some good work in the first half but was disappointed with the second half.
‘‘It’s a shame the game came to that in the end because in the second quarter there was some really good football played,’’ he said.
‘‘In the second half, they were too quick around the footy, and we weren’t able to maintain that speed for four quarters. Every time we made a skill error, they capitalised.’’
Both teams encountered injury woes.
Panthers co-coach David Lang came from the ground with a corkie in the first half and did not play the rest of the game.
Taylors Lake’s Josh Murphy will be sidelined for up to eight weeks with a broken collarbone.
