Geelong Advertiser | LARA has cleared a long-running financial burden after paying all outstanding match payments from last season.
Cats president Gerard Evans yesterday confirmed the club had settled the last block of unpaid match payments, as well as all coaching debts, from 2014.
All match payments for this season are up to date, Evans said.
The rebuilding Cats have slashed their player budget by more than 50 per cent this year to regain control of spending, reflected also by the fact the core of their highest-paid players departed in the off-season.
The situation made headlines last October when it was revealed most senior players had not received payments since the first half of the season.
“Working together with the (Lara) Sporting Club, we’ve been able to pay all the outstanding match payments and coaching payments,” Evans said.
“It allows us to focus on getting ourselves right financially for the salary cap for next year.”
The Cats also appear to have quietly secured the services of former North Ballarat VFL forward Myles Dorman, who has most recently been playing in the Essendon District Football League.
Dorman’s clearance to the Cats has been approved, just days before the AFL Victoria transfer window shut.
Dorman, who kicked 60 goals in 17 games in the VFL development league in 2013, is yet to debut for Lara but would be a chance to line up against St Joseph’s this weekend.
