Geelong Advertiser | BARWON HEADS co-coach Adam Wiseman knows his side has a huge challenge on its hand in this weekend’s preliminary final against Torquay.
But Wiseman dismissed any thought his side was simply a sideshow to a widely anticipated Geelong Amateur and Torquay grand final.
“Everyone’s been talking about Ammos and Torquay and it’s out of those two, and then Barwon
Heads, Ocean Grove and Anglesea are making up the numbers,” Wiseman said.
“The boys know they’ve done the hard work all year but there’s no point going into any game thinking we’re just here to make up the numbers.
“Our boys are as confident as they have been all year. It’s a do-or-die game. I guarantee we won’t leave anything to wonder after the game on the weekend.
“You can thrive on the underdog status or you can look at it the other way and say we probably deserve it ... (but) the pressure’s back on Torquay this week.”
No other side in the competition has caused the Seagulls as much trouble as Torquay has throughout 2015, suffering 42 and 68-point losses during the season.
Wiseman said the side would have to tinker with certain aspects of its game to avoid a recurrence of those substandard results.
TIGERS `CHOKE’ AS AMMOS ADVANCE
“If we keep playing that way it’s not going to work again,” he said.
“We don’t want to change too much of our own style at this time of year. But we know the way we played against them the first two times isn’t going to work.
“If we can just change a couple of little things around, which we think we can, hopefully it works in our favour.
“We just hope those minor things can sway the tide a little bit.”
