Horsham District FNLABC | Women have come forward with allegations of rape, assault and drink spiking, as concerns escalate about the culture surrounding a football club in Western Victoria.

Two former football players from the Harrow Balmoral Football Netball Club (HBFNC) were convicted in 2022 of raping their friend in a caravan after a 21st birthday party in 2016.

The lengthy criminal process and the town's response to it are the subject of a new ABC Background Briefing podcast series, Hometown Boys.

Since the podcast's release, other women have made allegations of assault involving current and former football players.

Laura, not her real name, is in her 30s now and was a teenager at a football function several years before the 2016 rape.

She said a player from the Harrow Balmoral Football Netball Club at the time had sex with her in front of a lot of people.

Laura said she was too drunk to consent and was left with injuries afterwards. She only remembers fragments of what happened.
