Geelong Advertiser | GEELONG West kicked six unanswered goals in the last quarter to surge to a confidence-boosting victory over Werribee Centrals under lights at West Oval on Saturday night.
The Cheetahs overcame a scoreless first quarter to work back into the contest, drew within four points by the last change, and then completely ran over the top of their injury-ravaged opponents for their first win of the season.
“We tried to go a loose man at the start of the game and it just didn’t work,” Geelong West coach Mark Hounslow said after the 30-point win.
“They were getting rebound off our half-forward line so we ended up just going one-on-one after that.”
Geelong West noticeably lifted its pressure all over the ground, but particularly in the forward half, where Trent Archer and Jacob Trainer worked over time to keep the ball inside 50.
“We were able to generate a score because of that eventually,” Hounslow said.
