drysdaleGeelong Advertiser | DRYSDALE coach John Fitzgerald knows people are sitting back and making judgments on his underperforming side.

And he can’t blame them.

At 1-3, on the back of disappointing losses to Modewarre and Portarlington, the Hawks’ season is delicately poised heading into a must-win clash against Barwon Heads on Saturday.

“At 1-1 after two weeks, we were pretty happy to take a split between Queenscliff and Ocean Grove,” Fitzgerald said.

“But to be beaten by Modewarre and Portarlington, that’s made us reassess and made us look at exactly how we’re going about it a lot more deeper than what we would have if we had have won those two games.”

Asked if he felt the competition was judging his side, Fitzgerald was unequivocal. “No doubt,” he said.

“ ... and we’ll be judged between 2-5pm on Saturday.”

Fitzgerald admitted the club had taken a forensic look at everything from team structures, player performance and their style of play since being outgunned by 35 points against Portarlington in their last match a fortnight ago.

“I think we’ve basically taken a week to have a really good look at where we are, our structure, the way we’re playing, all of those things, which we normally do around each bye,” he said.

“There’s usually four-to-six week blocks when you can do that, but I think probably losing our last two games really put more of a focus on that than normal.”
