Geelong Advertiser | Queenscliff star Chris Goullet will miss the next two games after being found guilty of making front on contact with Ocean Grove’s Brayden Warren.
Goullet pleaded guilty to the charge after running into Warren’s head as he ducked down to pick up the ball early in the first quarter of Saturday’s match.
It rules the Coutas best and fairest winner out of their blockbuster clash with Torquay at Spring Creek Reserve in a fortnight and also Saturday’s match against Portarlington.
The Couta told the tribunal chaired by Phil Swindells he didn’t intend to get Warren high and that the contact he made was “careless”.
“It was an unfortunate incident,” Goullet said.
“I didn’t intend to hit him high like that.”
Both Goullet, Warren and reporting umpire Graham Grossman rated the contact six out of 10.
Goullet said Warren fumbling the ball in the greasy conditions had contributed to the contact.
Warren said he was waiting for contact at some stage while he tried to get possession of the ball, but didn’t expect it t come from front on.
“I don’t remember how he hit me. I didn’t see him,” Warren said.
Swindells said the tribunal had no option but to hand down a suspension given the hit was “quite heavy”.
The tribunal heard Warren was on the ground for about 30 seconds, before taking his kick and then going off the ground.
He played no further part in Ocean Grove’s 19-point win, but has been cleared to play this week against Anglesea.
