bellposthillGeelong Advertiser | BRENT Grgic says Bell Post Hill is beginning to reap the benefits of a new game plan as the Panthers put Anakie to the slaughter on Saturday.

The reigning premiers, regarded for a high-possession game in its era of dominance, opened up the young Roos to win by 183 points.

And Grgic revealed his side had shifted its focus in recent months.

“We’re playing a different way and it’s a bit more exciting than we used to play,” Grgic said.

“It’s a faster moving brand of footy and you score a lot higher and it’s more exciting to play and that’s why the boys are enjoying it.

“In the last few weeks we’ve played some really good football and the scoreboard reflects that, too.

“We’ve concentrated on some basic stuff, we’ve been clean with the footy and playing on and our fitness is good. We’re playing some good team footy at the moment.”

Grgic admitted he had identified the need for a more fast-paced game plan when the Panthers, who claimed their fourth premiership last season, were seriously challenged by North Geelong.

“At the end of last year we started to play like this and we we’re moving the ball quicker,” he said.

“In the previous few grand finals we played a real slow, possession-style footy without playing on and we’ve got a totally different team now, a different make up to three or four years ago.

“It suits the playing list and the game plan has to suit the cattle.

“We’re quicker, we’re more defensive and we can play on more without getting opened up. In the first few years we didn’t have a defensive side as such and when we played on quickly we got opened up.
