Weekly Times | RED Cliffs Football Club is still without a coach for next season after former AFL player Nick Stevens was prevented from taking on the role.
But the club would still “love to have” Mr Stevens as a player, according to Red Cliffs vice-president Patrick Bell.
Mr Stevens, a former Carlton and Port Adelaide player, was appointed coach of the Sunraysia Football League club last month.
AFL Victoria initially withdrew Mr Stevens’ coaching accreditation in response to the Red Cliffs appointment, but later claimed his accreditation had already expired and he would need to undergo a police check to reapply.
Mr Bell said Red Cliffs would be “more than happy” to have Mr Stevens as a player, but he could not coach without accreditation.
“We’re still hopeful it will work out eventually, but once again that’s a matter for Nick Stevens and the AFL,” he said.
