THE Shinboner spirit is well and truly alive at Thornton- Eildon.
After spending the past three years in recess, the Boners had their first win at the weekend since making their return to Division 2 of the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League.
Thornton-Eildon’s 30-point victory over rival Alexandra was a welcome reward for president Wayne Kupke, who has worked tirelessly since late last year to ensure the Boners took the field again this season.
“It has been a great start so far,” Kupke said.
“We went close in the first three matches, but I guess it was all the more satisfying that it came together against our arch rival.”
The club’s most recent premiership coach, Brad Coller, has taken the reins this season in an attempt to return Thornton-Eildon to September action and, according to Kupke, his aspirations are not out of reach.
“We’ve made giant strides already, but we think we are a chance to play finals football this year,” Kupke said.
The Boners face top-of-the table Yarra Glen on Saturday.
