UNDER-18 Vic Country coach Shaun O’Loughlin has praised the commitment of his team despite its winless finish in the Youth Girls National Championships in Canberra last week.

Making the step up to Pool A for the first time this year, Vic Country was beaten by tough opponents Vic Metro, Queensland and eventual champions Western Australia.

O’Loughlin was still pleased with the professionalism and improvement shown by his side.

“Our focus for the week was to develop the girls’ footy at a higher level and expose them to a professional environment,” he said.

“We showed them game vision and got them doing ice baths for their recovery, and the girls were really keen to improve and take on board the feedback we provided.”

An assistant coach with the North Ballarat Rebels, O’Loughlin said Vic Country’s performances would only get better as the game grew in regional areas.

Vic Country trio Lily Mithen (back pocket), Eliza Shannon (interchange) and Isabella Ayre (ruck rover) were selected in the Under-18 All-Australian side.
