PARAMEDICS needed to attend to an 18-year-old St Joseph's footballer who was left convulsing on the field after being knocked unconscious.

The club is calling for an investigation into the incident in an under 18 game against Newtown Chilwell.

The player was stabilised at the ground and taken to hospital from where he later got the all-clear and was released.

Paramedics were called to Herne Hill Reserve shortly after 9.30am on Saturday.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the teen suffered a loss of consciousness after colliding with another player and hitting his head when he hit the ground.

St Joseph's Colts coach Nathan Harkness said the incident occurred off the ball during the second quarter.

"It was a result of a bump and we've put in for an investigation," he said.

"The club is rapt he's now OK and was released from hospital later that day with a massive headache," he said.

Mr Harkness said it was the player's first season with St Joseph's.
