GOLDFIELDS regional general manager Rod Ward says country footy would "for the first time" have adequate resources.
Ward, currently general manager of the Ballarat Central Administration Hub and chief executive of the Ballarat Football League, will start his new Goldfields role on Monday.
He is one of four regional general managers already appointed under AFL Victoria's new country football administration structure.
Seven of the anticipated 13 regional commissions, designed to oversee football in different pockets of Victoria, have also been inducted.
Ward said there was much to do to bed down the new structure.
"I think in two years we'll look back and say it's a great structure," he said. "For the first time since I've been here (in country football administration), I think we've now got the resources we need to properly service football and netball in the region."
Two football development managers - current AFL Victoria country development manager Tim Shearer and Victorian Country Football League southwest area manager Brett Anderson - will also start work with AFL Goldfields on Monday. "People just need to look at it that the regional commissions are basically just a localised VCFL," Ward said. "The roles of each league board won't change."
VCFL northeast area manager John O'Donohue has been appointed regional general manager of AFL North East Victoria, and Paul Hamilton, former general manager of football at Essendon Football Club, will lead AFL Central Victoria.
Experienced cricket administrator Martin Gleeson was this week announced as the head of AFL Goulburn Murray.
Gleeson has worked for Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and, more recently, with the International Cricket Council. He will relocate from India to take up the new role.
A regional general manager for AFL Geelong is expected to be announced this week.
AFL Victoria chief operating officer Steven Reaper was "delighted" with the response to the structural changes. "It's coming together a lot quicker than we anticipated," he said.
"Our forecast was that getting three commissions up and running this year would be a good result, and we've already got seven."
A forum will be held at Etihad Stadium on April 21 for new commissioners.
