AFLCommunityChallengePress Release | WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country is pleased to announce its Energy Safe Under 19 and WorkSafe Vic Country representative squads ahead of the AFL Victoria Community Cup on Sunday, July 10.

A squad of 25-players has been named for Vic Country ahead of their blockbuster clash against Vic Metro, with one player to be named as emergency later this week.

Energy Safe Vic Country Under 19 squad coach, Damian Sexton has released a final squad of 26-players including four emergencies, who will line up against the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA).

Eight leagues are represented in the Vic Country senior outfit, with Geelong FNL and Goulburn Valley FL leading the way with five selections each, followed by the Mornington Peninsula FNL with four.

The WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country side will once again be coached by Hawthorn legend Peter Knights, who is keen to rectify the result from its last encounter with Vic Metro in 2014, after going down to Melbourne’s best by 38-points.

Vic Country is set to name its captain in the coming days, while a final Vic Metro squad will be released later this week.

Of the 11 leagues represented in the Energy Safe Under 19 squad, Ovens & Murray FNL is the best represented with five selections, followed by Goulburn Valley FL and Geelong FNL with four players each.

Nineteen-year-old Hayden McMahon (St Marys FNC) will lead the brightest young country football talent as captain, while Dean Smith (Mooroopna FNC) has earned the role as vice-captain.

Energy Safe Victoria Country U19 has recorded emphatic victories in its last two encounters against VAFA, in what has fast become one of the great traditional rivalries between the bush and the burbs.

The U19 representative match will kick off at 11.15am before the highly anticipated clash between Vic Country vs Vic Metro in the 2016 AFL Victoria Community Cup at 2pm.

The AFL Victoria Community Cup match will be Live Streamed at the AFL Victoria website aflvic.com.au.
