AFLcountryWorkSafe AFL Victoria Country is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamie Macri to the role of Football Development Manager for the Central Murray Region.

Macri, from Kerang, was the standout candidate in an extensive recruitment process that considered a long list of quality applicants.

As Football Development Manager (FDM), the 45-year-old will play an important role in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for football in the region.

He will also have a hands-on role in promoting and growing the game in the area, in conjunction with the AFL Central Murray Commission – when it is established – and WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country.

WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Brett Connell said the appointment represented a significant investment in football in the region.

"Having Jason join our FDM team in the Central Murray Region will benefit all associated leagues, clubs and players, along with the next generation of footballers involved in local NAB AFL Auskick programs," Connell said.

"The role of the FDM is an amalgamation of the current AFL Victoria Region Development Managers and WorkSafe AFL Vic Country Area Managers, and will give all stakeholders in the region access to new levels of support and game development expertise."

Macri is currently employed as the Welfare Coordinator at the Kerang Technical High School and is the senior coach of the Mallee Eagles in the Central Murray Football League.

He is also a current Unit Controller for the Victorian Sate Emergency Service and for the past 12 years has been the Junior Development Officer for the Central Murray FL.

"Jamie has been involved with almost every level of football in the region, being a respected senior and junior coach and volunteer over a 25-year period," Connell said.

"We are delighted to secure the services of someone with such vast experience, which includes everything from coordinating Auskick programs and events, to coaching in the region's premier senior football competition."

Connell said Macri's work with the region's youth through his role at the Kerang Technical High School and as a local business owner, would also give him vital tools to be able to succeed in the role of FDM.

"We are extremely pleased to have secured the services of someone with the experiences and skills-set that Jamie possesses."

"The restructure of football administration across Victoria presents an opportunity to increase the resources in football communities and have local people charged with making decisions that reflect local needs and values."

Macri will begin his role on July 15, 2013 and see the year out as Mallee Eagles Senior Coach.
