Sandhurst FCThe Sandhurst Football Club's place in the annals of Australian Rules history is assured.

As Victoria's fifth oldest club, behind only Melbourne, Castlemaine and Geelong, all formed in 1859, and Ballarat, established in 1860, Sandhurst can trace its origins to June 3, 1961.

After celebrating its 150th year last season, the Dragons' history is now detailed in a book entitled From Cardinals to Dragons.

The work by local sports historian Darren Lewis examines how the club, first known as the Cardinals, then the Maroons and now the Dragons, survived to be still a powerhouse in the region today.

Since entering the then Bendigo Football Association (now the Bendigo Football League) in 1880 as one of its pioneer clubs, Sandhurst has won 26 flags, one behind Eaglehawk.
