malleeflIn what was predicted to be a close round of football this weekend, but turned out to be 2 comfortable wins.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers have gone a game clear on top of the ladder after cruising to victory by 41 points. They put the foot down in the last quarter, kicking 5 goals to 2 but it wasn't always this easy for the Tigers.

A shootout loomed as each team piled on 5 goals in the first quarter. Pierce Liddle was on fire early snaring 3 goals during the term for the Cats and at the other end Cliff Ryan had 2.

Lack of discipline cost the Cats in the second quarter with Pierce Liddle being sent off. This allowed the opposition to draw away with a handy 29 point lead at half time. Brad Collins and Jarrod Arentz were getting on top of their opponents and they finished with 9 goals between them.

The Cats were never going to give in easily and battled hard in the third quarter to keep themselves in the game. However another send off in the last term, this time to Charles McAdam, cost the Cats dearly. Trent Donnan played his usual solid game in the middle and Jake Nelson played well as a late inclusion for the injured Jason Kruger.

However Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers had more winners across the ground. Matt Elliot and Tom Summerhayes continued with their consistent form while Scott Weekley and John Foskett were also important around the ground to get their team the four points.

In perfect conditions for football at Underbool, a large crowd gathered for Walpeup Underbool stalwart, Travis Latta's 300th senior game. With the home side still looking for their first win of 2015 there was plenty to play for.

However it wasn't to be for the home side as the Giants blew the Roos away after a reasonably close first half of footy. Winners across all lines and a game style of quick ball movement combined with hard running, allowed the Giants to have more numbers around most contests. Sam Weddell controlled half back and often linked up with Riley Norris through his wing, both players the best for the Giants.

The Roos battled away early working the ball forward eager to keep in touch, but as has been the case for most of the season, Walpeup Underbool turnovers proved costly as the Giants took control of the game. Kain Robins moved well across half forward booting four goals in a tight match-up with Kane Munro. Clint Burdett was influential, particularly early in the game, and found plenty of the ball through the midfield.

Injuries were costly for both teams. The Giants were down to 1 on the bench for the entire second half and the Roos lost Ben Fisher just before half time. Ryan Anderson also sustained a leg injury.

This win may give the Giants the confidence they need going forward. The win and percentage boost are important to keep them safe in fourth spot and possibly push further up the ladder.
