malleeflAn even contest looms between third and fourth position on the ladder, when Ouyen United host the Southern Mallee Giants in round 13 of Mallee Football League action.

Both teams still see themselves as a top two chance, this game almost make or break. While the Demons trail the Giants by 4 points, they have played one less game and still have an opportunity to make up that ground in the coming weeks.
Ouyen United had a stellar start to the season however injuries and absences have plagued the Demons. In recent weeks they have not been able to have consistency in their starting line-up, being forced to swing many changes each week.

Coming off a bye may enable some of United's injured stars to return. Bradley Vallance and Laurence Angwin are key to kicking a winning score if both available. Their defence has been able to stand up under trying circumstances, led by coach Andrew Jardine and Aron Morrish.

On the other hand, defence is possibly an area for the Giants to improve. Sam Weddel has almost been a lone star since being moved to centre half back earlier in the season. The pockets, flankers along with the wingers and onballers, all need to offer support, particularly if the Demons' 2 key forwards are in the line up.

With plenty on the line for both teams it is sure to be a great contest.
A rejuvenated Walpeup Underbool will welcome Woomelang Lascelles to their home turf this week looking for win number two.

The Roos were essentially beaten by the buzzer against the Giants last week after making a late run to steal the win. It wasn't to be, however coming off a win the week before that, they seem to have a renewed confidence. This rise to form can quite easily create some upsets in the second part of the season and the Roos will not be discounting finals just yet.

The Roos know exactly what they will get from players like Shane Birss, Ryan Anderson, Kane Munro and Luke Nathan. However it has been the recent improvement of players such as Thomas Hedley, Joshua Coates and Richard Thomas that has provided the catalyst for their change in form.

Woomelang Lascelles will be setting the home side a tough challenge, coming off a disappointing loss to Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers last week. The Cats gave up a 33 point half time lead to go down to the Tigers and will be out to make sure they put in a consistent four quarter effort when they front up this week.

Their aim will be to come out firing and have a first half as they did last week, but then build on that. The Cats' third quarter has been their weakness. The last time these two teams met the Roos outscored the Cats in the third quarter and trailed by just 13 points at the final change.

The Cats leaders in Trent Donnan and Jayden Lonergan will be doing everything in their power to make sure their chargers are not in the same situation this week.
